Limited Edition Chex Mix – Cocoa

Posted in Chips, Confectionaries

Evening friends! Hope you all enjoyed my holiday pie from McDonald’s earlier. I’m tellin’ you – they do everything they can to make them the least appealing as possible – but it was delicious. Yesterday while at Walmart I picked up a bag of the Limited Edition Chex Mix – Cocoa flavor. While walking around I was contemplating how this would taste any different than some of the elements of the Turtle Chex Mix and the Dark Chocolate Chex Mix. I am not overly sure where everyone is getting the idea to release Cocoa flavored items – isn’t that just fancy pants chocolate?

Over on The Impulsive Buy, I griped that companies are making limited edition bags of snacks in THE BIGGEST BAG EVER. This can be a double edge sword. On one hand – if the snack really sucks, you’re not only stuck with the remainder, but most likely enough to feed a small army. On the other hand – if it is really good, then you have more to eat while reviewing your life choices as you consume the entire bag wondering where it all went wrong. I kid. This bag is no exception. I can only assume that they figured that people would be putting this out at a party and would like to have a sizable amount for their guests.

When I opened the bag, I was greeted with the scent of pure chocolate. After inspecting its contents I poured myself a small bowl to examine more closely. This mix is made up of cinnamon roll shaped grahams, chocolate powder covered Chex and pretzels, white chocolate Chex, and “marshmallows”. I am not really following the cinnamon roll element in this mix, but they are good. The chocolate coated Chex and pretzels were OK, I really wish they would have baked the chocolate into the Chex or coated it with real chocolate instead of some weird cocoa powder. After reviewing the ingredients, I found that the white chocolate Chex actually have a yogurt flavor coating, it tastes like white chocolate to me. I honestly felt like they were the best part of the mix. The marshmallows were like the ones you find in breakfast cereals, and there were TONS of them – literally it looked like you mixed your Chex Mix with a bag of those tiny styrofoam beads. They are crunchy and delicious and sink the to the bottom of the mix so you can eat them all at the end. Saves me the trouble of eating around all of them to save them for last.

Texture: 3/5 – I know that this is made up of all grains and flour, and what not, but this mix is SO DRY. Pretty much all Chex Mix are, but good grief, my jaw was getting tired from chewing. Treat yourself to a beverage while eating this, you’ll need it.

Smell: 4/5 – The chocolate smell was very apparent when opening the bag – but it did not smell like a cup of hot cocoa.

Appearance: 2/5 – The brown powered chocolate all over the place made it look like it was more like Limited Edition Chex Mix – Dirt, than anything else.

Taste: 3.5/5 – Overall, this mix is pretty tasty, but its nothing to write home about. If I had to choose one of the Limited Edition Chex Mix flavors for my holiday party, I can’t say I would go to this one as my first choice. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t buy it again – as I can get the Dark Chocolate version and be just as satisfied¬† (and I get little red chocolates in it!)
