Happy New Year food friends! I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year’s last night. Personally we stayed in and thankfully so because people lost their minds in Sacramento last night. Not only was there a car stolen from a local auto mall that caused a major highway to be shut down, we had a couple of other sad incidents including a shooting at a huge party thrown by the city. I hold on to my feelings that people are losing their damn minds. ANYWAYS, on a more positive note, I have a little recap on my personal blog of my last year if you are bored.
Call it a feat of marketing, but everytime I see a packaging that says new or limited edition I always feel compelled to buy it. I’m a total sucker and apparently marketing companies target customer. I have not had animal crackers in AGES. I think I was probably 10 or so maybe younger. There are a few foods that I remember tasting better than they do. One example would be Rice Crispies. I loved them as a kid and now as an adult I can’t even see how I remotely liked them. Somehow, animal crackers have managed to make their way into this list.
I remember animal crackers tasting slightly buttery with a hint of vanilla. I would never get tired of eating these no frills cookies, but something along the way changed and I was rather disappointed when I tried these again. Not only did they have a lackluster flavor, they tasted slightly stale – and there was nothing limited edition about them! What a let down.
Texture: 4/5 - These cookies have the slightly crunchy texture, but they were kind of chewy not in a good way.
Smell: 2/5 - They smell slightly vanilla-y.
Appearance: 1/5 - Now this may seem a little harsh, but they didn’t even change any of the animals to “winter” type animals – whatever those are. The only thing that is “limited edition” about these is the dang box.
Taste: 3/5 – These cookies were mediocre, which kid of killed a little of my childhood (not really). The only way I could see myself eating these again in my adult life would be if I were dunking them in hot chocolate or smothered in Nutella.
