Good Morning Friends!
The other day I was at the gas station – I rarely go inside because I don’t really have a need to. Recently Taco Bell released some flavored sunflower seeds and there have been a few candy releases that I have not been able to get my meat hooks on yet so I thought I would venture inside and check it out.
Little did I know that social anxiety would kick into overdrive and I couldn’t leave the store unless I bought something because I was convinced that someone would think it was weird that I was scouring the aisles without buying anything. I grabbed a water, to which I cringed because I have been working very hard to use reusable containers for water and looked for some sort of snack that I hadn’t tried yet. My interest was piqued when I passed the Werther’s caramel corn, but kept looking in case something that I really wanted was tucked away on an end cap. I settled for the caramel corn, pumped my gas, and then went home.
Salty sweet snacks are my absolute favorite. If I had to choose one “genre” of snacks it would be anything that is salty sweet. Pretzels happen to also be some of my favorite things to snack on so adding it to caramel corn seemed like a pretty great addition. I rarely eat Cracker Jacks because a) popcorn husks in your teeth b) peanuts – so the prospect of swapping out the peanuts for pretzels? Sign me up!
OH and I also had this moment of thought while sitting on the couch – the song “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” there is a line that says “buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks…” AREN’T THERE ALREADY PEANUTS IN THE CRACKER JACKS?! Lets change it to nachos or a giant pretzel or something – way less redundant.
Werther’s Caramel Corn is by no means new but it was the first time I had tried it. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of pretzels from the get go. This bag was a smaller bag (which is fine by me, I don’t need to eat a family sized portion) and only had 3 pretzels in there. BOO. One great thing about the pretzels were that they acted as a caramel catcher during the manufacturing process and they were completely caked in caramel. YUM.
The popcorn was nice and airy, and completely coated in caramel. There were brief moments where you could taste the sea salt but it was not a prominent player in the flavor game. Overall I really enjoyed this mix and could see myself buying this again however next time I will buy a small bag of pretzels too and mix the two together.
