Krispy Kreme – Limited Time – Nutter Butter Donut & Chips Ahoy Donut

Good Morning everyone! Soooo… does anyone really enjoy going to meetings? When I started working many moons ago I discovered that meetings are the voicemail of office work. JUST TEXT ME THE DETAILS. The only good part about meetings are that they occasionally have food. I was tasked with procuring said food, mostly because I am the first person to the office every day and I have a company credit card (ayyyyye). Donuts were requested and the closest (and only?) donut shop to my work is a Krispy Kreme. I prefer Krispy Kreme’s sour cream donuts to their original glazed, but that’s just me.

I grabbed a dozen and one of the Nutter Butter donuts for myself, because let’s face it, peanut butter ANYTHING is probably going to be delicious – unless you are allergic, then deadly. BUT ANYWAYS. I dropped off the donuts in the conference room and retreated to my office to enjoy my tasty breakfast snack.

Let’s just start with that this donut was smaller than I thought it was going to be – but that was OK, I don’t need a donut the size of Texas to start my day. According to Krispy Kreme, this donut is dipped in peanut butter icing, topped with Nutter Butter crumbles, and drizzled with peanut butter icing. This sounds like a peanut butter lovers dream – except I was somehow completely underwhelmed with peanut butter flavoring. I liked the pieces on top, which gave it a nice bit of texture but overall this was hardly peanut buttery at all. I think they really could have knocked it out of the park if they had oped for a peanut butter flavored cream instead of peanut butter flavored glaze. I would totally pass on this donut again.

Fast forward roughly 7 hours and I have been running around back and forth from my office to my other desk in our 14,000 square foot warehouse – completely ignoring the hunger pangs that have been plaguing me all day since my Nutter Butter let down donut. I didn’t really have time to run out and grab something to eat and I remembered that there was nearly a full box of untouched donuts sitting in the conference room. I made the trek up the front of the building and grabbed the box, presenting it to my coworkers like some sort of donut deity and slyly took another donut for lunch. Do I need two donuts in one day? No. Did I eat two donuts in one day? Yes. Am I proud of it? In the immediate moment, yes in the long term, no. Introducing the Chips Ahoy chocolate chips donut. Doughnut?

Needless to say I was starving judging by this picture because I took a big ole bite before giving it a proper introduction. I will be the first to admit that Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies are pretty hit and miss for me. Sometimes i am really into them, other times they are a paltry attempt at satisfying a craving for fresh baked cookies. I was concerned that the cookie on top would break my two front teeth but it turns out, that baby is a soft bake. Nice job guys. I found this donut rather delicious. The cookie dough cream on the inside with the dark chocolate and cookie on top really hit the spot. I would definitely eat one of these again.

The only donut of the limited time trio that I did not get to try was the Oreo cookies and cream, but let’s be real – I think we can imagine what that bad boy tastes like and the only people that wanted that donut were the people that voted for the cookies and cream Oreos that were released a while back.

Oreo Cookies – Limited Edition Cookie Dough

While meandering through Target today, trying to remember what I actually came there for, I spotted these on a front endcap as I walked through market. I somewhat recently tried the Baskin Robbins Oreo cake batter ice cream and I imagined that these would taste similar to that. Or maybe those chocolate chip covered Oreos that people see on Pinterest, but always turn out these huge hockey puck cookies that to me, don’t taste all that great. I threw a package in my cart and continued on my trek through Target – which by the way, I left without buying the one thing I really needed to buy.

Nabisco has really been trying to up their Oreo game lately – and I feel like they are the only ones that are trying to come out with a lot of limited edition items. The only other brand that I see doing a lot of new flavors are Pringles. Chocolate chip cookie dough is my go to flavor when it comes to ice cream, that is when I could still eat ice cream. I would also say that I probably enjoy raw cookie dough more than I enjoy baked cookies. There is something so good about eating a spoonful of cold cookie dough. We will just pretend that it doesn’t have raw eggs in it, alright?

I was kind of expecting these Oreos to be like the peanut butter Oreos (not to be confused with the Reese’s Oreos). You are expecting to have peanut butter in the middle, but instead you get peanut butter flavored creme, good, but not great. The outside of the package boasts that the creme is made with ‘chocolately chips’ but upon twisting my first Oreo open, they were hardly noticeable. I am from the school of Oreo eaters that twist open the cookie, eat the creme center, then eat the cookies. I feel that Nabisco could have gone either way with a chocolate cookie or a golden cookie with this one, but being a chocolate lover, I’m glad they decided to go with the chocolate cookie outside.

The creme was really tasty. I think the ‘chocolately’ chips were more chocolate shavings than anything, but you definitely got the flavor profile of raw cookie dough. My favorite part of chocolate chip cookies is the brown sugar, and that flavor is definitely present in these. The only thing that I would have changed would be that the chocolate in the cookie dough was more chunk like, but thats just a personal preference.

Could we also take a moment and address that Nabisco should really get into the cookie spread game and bust out some different flavored Oreo cookie butters? I know I’m probably not alone in wanting some delicious cookies and creme cookie butter across my breakfast toast.

Texture: 4/5 – The texture of the creme is what you would expect from an Oreo. The chocolate chips neither enhance or detract from the texture of the cookie.

Smell: 5/5 – These definitely smell like chocolate chip cookies to me and they smell delicious.

Appearance: 3/5 – I only give this a middle of the road rating because you can’t really jazz up an Oreo. The pictures on the outside of the bag…tray? don’t really match what the inside looks like, but that’s okay. I am still going to eat the hell out of these regardless of what they look like.

Taste: 4.5/5 – Out of all the limited edition Oreos that I have tried, I would venture to say that these rank in one of the top spots on my list. The center is buttery, creamy, brown sugar-y (is that a word?) and delicious, and the cookie outside brings the crunch making this cookie the complete package. I would be okay if Nabisco decided to ditch some of their other flavors that are old stand-bys and replace one with this flavor. In fact I would probably be more apt to buy these than regular Oreos – ooooh I said it. Go try them!
