Want to know a fun fact? Everyday I review something, I try the food that day. I don’t sit at home and have magical feasts of junk food to write about later. I must say though, I had a huge dinner of tacos and garlic bread (don’t judge me) and eating something afterwards was a little rough. I currently don’t think I will be able to move from my current spot for a while. My everything hurts… someone get me a wheelchair.
I am pretty sure that these Peeps Marshmallow Gingerbread Men are not new, but I don’t recall ever tasting them despite my undying love for Peeps. I decided to pick these up not only because they are Peeps but GINGERBREAD! YEAH! Gingerbread is the new pumpkin guys (maybe)!
Let’s not pretend that we don’t all first notice the sad state that is their faces and other features made of icing right now. Protip: Don’t put a picture of what your product should look like if infact, does not look anything like it at all. Something must have been really amusing to the left as most of them are looking and smiling in that general direction. Come on, a first grader could have piped these better. When I opened the packaging I was immediately hit with the smell of brown sugar – what? I kept smelling and finally picked up a hint of ginger. Despite the pungent aroma, the gingerbread taste to these is rather underwhelming. They are good, but the gingerbread flavoring is not in your face by any means. I do however think that these would be delicious lightly toasted and sandwiched between a graham cracker and a small hunk of white chocolate.
Texture: 3/5 – These have the texture of a normal Peep. Light fluffy inside and pseudo crunchy exterior from the sugar coating on the outside. The icing features do not add anything to the textural experience.
Smell: 3/5 – The smell of these were a little deceiving. I don’t really know where the brown sugar smell comes into play, but it smells good. Another smell that Yankee could make into a candle and I would buy, thats for sure. Dear Yankee, if you do end up using these ideas, please cut me a royalty check.
Appearance: 2/5 – I like that Peeps went with a gingerbread man shape vs the standard Peep shape like they did for the Sugar Cookie version. However, those icing features? Someone needs some practice for next year.
Taste: 3/5 – Despite the subtle gingerbread flavoring to these Peeps, they are good. My guess is that they did not want to make the flavor overbearing because they want you to eat the entire tray – I’m on to you Peeps. I think these would be delicious as s’mores, as I said before, and the casual indifferent gingerbread lover will like these. Diehards? Stick to the real thing.
